The make or break of this attack happen in the very first steps, which makes scouting, funneling and Queen drop very important. Lets try and break it down step by step:
Step 1 – Scouting
You want to find a side, not a corner, to enter from. The shortest and easiest way to high value targets is generally the side to pick. You also want to look at the funneling capabilities of that side. Preferably you’ll have one corner/spot on that side where 3-4 Witches followed by 3-4 Bowlers can survive and generate great value when funneling. The other side of the funnel is normally made with a Baby Dragon and you want to keep an eye on that possibility too.
Step 2 – Funneling
How to funnel a base varies from base to base but the general idea is to use 3-4 Witches and 3-4 Bowlers on one side, and a Baby Dragon on the other. The objective of the funnel is to make sure your Archer Queen enter where you want her to together with the army. You want to funnel enough to make sure they don’t split, you want everything to enter together.
Dropping funneling troops doesn’t necessarily happen before deploying your Archer Queen, but these two steps are always subsequent events.
Step 3 – Queen Walk
The Queen Walk varies a lot from base to base, sometimes it’s barely a walk at all, and other times it can last for a minute. It can almost be seen as part of the funnel, since the main goal of the walk is to have your Queen reach the point where you want to enter the base to reach the high value targets. Once she’s there and the funnel is complete, you release the army.
At this point you quite often want to have placed your first jump spell as well.
Step 4 – Releasing the army
You want to drop your Clan Castle first to let the giants and your Pekka out, followed by Barbarian King. Pekka and Barbarian King will work as tanks and following them you drop your Bowlers, making sure they have a clear path to where you have intended them to go. After the bowlers you drop Grand Warden and remaining Witches.
Step 5 – Spells and awareness
This is where it get tricky and skill, patience and experience comes into play. When scouting you want to plan where to use those jumps and where to rage up the army and hopefully it will all come through. More often than not it will alter slightly in one way or another and you need to keep this in mind and react accordingly.
You want to place your jumps to open up as much as possible of the base, and reach as many of the high value targets as possible. Also keep in mind that it’s sometimes a good idea to not open up all possible compartments with a jump, to get better control of your army.
Rage spells can be used in many ways and no matter how meticulous it’s planned out you might end up using one or two on the fly. The following are great usages for Rage spells:
- During the Queen Walk for Healers and Queen
- Around the Eagle Artillery
- Around the Inferno Towers
- When facing defending Clan Castle troops
- To kill enemy heroes
Quite often you’ll find yourself combining two or more of the above with a single spell.
It might seem like a drop and pray type of army and to some extent it is. A lot of work is put into scouting the base and planning the attack to find a way through the base that will result in an early checkmate. Once your funnel is done and your troops are deployed you need to keep track of what’s going on to maximize the benefit of spells and hero abilities.
As always you need to be on your toes and react and adapt with your attack as it develops.
